—Round Hill Fell Race ( club run )
Knavesmire’s Nik Tarrega repeated last year’s win, having a great race running a couple of minutes quicker than 2016. She was pushed all the way by Monica Padilla, Wharfedale who finished just 17 seconds behind. Both notable times, being the fourth & fifth fastest ladies times since the first race in 2003.
Also running in this almost nine mile race held within site of Menwith Hill were :
10th Gareth Green 1:03:30 ( lost places with navigational issues- could have been top 3 )
12th Barry Atkinson 1:04:25 (2nd M50)
13th Giles Hawking 1:05:08
15th Nik Tarrega 1:05:29 1st Lady
39th Richard Tarrega 01:12:24
53rd Ewan Kirk 01:14:04
68th Andrew Johnson 01:19:16

—High Fell Events, Clennell trail half. report by Liz Matthews
Wow! What a run! The Cheviots threw everything at us today – starting with the clouds of Scottish midges that had crossed the border to wave us off! We had sun, cloud, wind and icy rain. The advertised half marathon turned out to be nearly 15 miles, with almost 700 metres of ascent. The eagerly anticipated ‘sting in the tail ‘ turned out to be a knee deep river crossing followed by a near vertical climb. Yes, it was easier on hands and knees! At 21k, the expected end of a half marathon, we found ourselves heading north again, away from the finish! But we finished, with a huge grin on our faces. To cap it off, Maureen finished first FV60.
Brilliant event, great atmosphere.
—Burbage Skyline. report by Neil Stabbs
The delayed Burbage Skyline was on Tuesday night last week – normally a spring race before the bracken has grown, the heavy vegetation made for a tough race.
The route starts with a headlong dash to the river, with the experienced runners trying to get a fast start to avoid the queues at the river crossing. It then climbs through the woods to Higgar Tor, before heading down the evocatively named “Plummet” descent. Another steady climb leads to Burbage Bridge and the second river crossing, before the crag top path along Burbage North and a sprint finish down the Green Drive.
Being only 10 minutes drive from my new home in Sheffield, this was one I couldn’t miss and had a great race in sunny conditions.
Some of the lead runners took a wrong turn at the start meaning I got to the river in the top 10. I lost a few places as some of the fast runners who had gone the wrong way caught up and passed me on the way to Higgar, then held on until the final sprint. I finished in 15th and took home the V40 prize ahead of fell running legend Darren Fishwick.
